GIVING BACK

We believe in leading by example

Therefore, The Global Citizen gives back to our community through various pro-bono programs that equip and empower young adults to change the world. We are committed to bridging the gap in co-curricular education, fostering young leaders of tomorrow, and providing learning experiences to underserved communities.

Find out more about some of the community projects we have been working on below. We are also currently on the lookout for new partners and projects, so email us at contact@theglobalcitizen.sg if you have a great idea on how we can shape a brighter future together.

The Global Citizen Partners the United Nations Global Compact

At The Global Citizen, we understand and value the importance of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, we are honoured to have become a partner as well as a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in 2017. We have since been an active supporter of the UNGC Singapore’s Sustainability Internship Program (SIP), and have helped with conducting workshops geared toward global citizenry for the program. SIP is a youth initiative by UNGC that has clear objectives of developing our youth talent pool to meet the increase in green job demands and create career prospects in the area of sustainability. Bringing Debate to Vietnam

As a pioneer of debate in Vietnam, The Global Citizen was one of the two lead sponsors and a co-organizer of Vietnam's first debate tournament to be held in English and to use the World Schools Debating Championship format. The nation-wide tournament known as the Hanoi Open Vietnam Schools Debating Championship (HN-VSDC) was proudly supported by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, and marked a key turning point in Vietnam’s debating history. Over a hundred students were introduced to the art of debate and engaged in a meaningful weekend of academic, not to mention, respectful discourse.

Championing Young People Like Us

A core philosophy of The Global Citizen is to champion academic co-curricular education, especially among young people and children. This is why we are so proud to have supported KidsAccomplish!, by providing their trainers and students with our public speaking, coding and drama related services at no cost. KidsAccomplish! Is an enrichment program founded, conceptualized and run by Yale-NUS College students. Their mission is “to cultivate children’s interest in the increasingly interconnected world by raising their self, social and international awareness”. Supporting Sustainability

Earlier this year, The Global Citizen was a supporting partner at the inaugural Global Compact Network Singapore Youth Forum (GCNS Youth Forum) organized in conjunction with Singapore Power Shift (SPS). This Forum sought to bring together major players from business, industrial and environmental services in discussion over the challenges brought by climate change in today’s changing world order. SPS, an event powered by the National Youth Council and Young NTUC, has been organized for the past 3 years, with the aim of raising awareness about climate change issues in Singapore, as well as training and developing the capacity of youths to champion climate change. The GCNS Youth form was graced by Mr Heng Chee How, Deputy Secret-General of the National Trade Union Congress. Click here to find out more about this exciting 3-day conference.

Building Bridges for Future Leaders

In 2016 and 2017, The Global Citizen sponsored the Yale-NUS College Asia Pacific Model United Nations (YNC-AP MUN) conferences which brought together over 800 young student leaders from more than 30 countries to discuss and develop solutions to our world’s most pressing problems. YNC-AP MUN is one of Southeast Asia’s largest simulations of the United Nations, and is organized annually by the Yale-NUS International Relations and Political Association.
